Receiving a cancer diagnosis can cause immense psychological distress for patients already managing the physical and emotional challenges of their illness. Emyria’s Empax Centre is proud to be at the forefront of research exploring new ways to support these patients by leading a clinical trial funded by Psyence Biomed.

Empax was selected as the lead site given our extensive experience delivering complex, multidisciplinary mental health care under rigorous clinical governance.

The trial will investigate the potential of psilocybin-assisted therapy to help individuals process their diagnosis and find peace during periods of profound uncertainty and is aiming to enrol 87 participants.

Recently, 9News Perth visited the Empax Centre to report on the study, featuring the story of Meagan Appelbee, a 44-year-old nurse living with advanced triple negative breast cancer, who describes maintaining a positive outlook as “half the battle.”
