The month of June is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Month and today (June 27) marks PTSD Awareness Day, an important window of time to reflect on the profound, often lifelong impact of PTSD.

On more than one occasion, I have heard PTSD described as an injury of the mind, body and nervous system, characterised by physical and psychological impacts that can impact so many parts of everyday life. For millions, symptoms can linger for decades, yet no new medicines have been approved for PTSD in over 20 years and current therapy options often attract high drop-out rates.

The urgent need for more effective mental health treatments fuels our work at Emyria and our expanding network of Empax Centres. During a climate of rising psychological trauma – globally.

Just last week, I joined over 8,000 global leaders at Psychedelic Science 2025 in Denver for the world’s largest gathering of clinical professionals and advocates dedicated to exploring the future of psychedelic-assisted therapy. The conference covered a rich spectrum of ideas: neuroscience, therapy models, and the deep history of psychedelic therapy – and how these intersect with real-world challenges of implementing care at scale.

It became abundantly clear that Australia, and Emyria, is leading the way.

While many international care teams have been stalled, waiting for FDA approvals or policy changes, we are privileged to be operating within Australia’s established legal pathways. Emyria is not just running one of the most active treatment programs in the world, we are setting the pace and demonstrating how rigorous standards of compliance and clinical care, can co-exist, and serve patients’ needs.

I had the honour of presenting and discussed our recent Medibank partnership. This is a world-first agreement with Australia’s largest health insurer to fund access to our treatment programs for eligible Medibank customers with PTSD. I also shared longitudinal, real-world data from our first patient cohorts. The response was deeply encouraging. Applause, curiosity, and requests for follow-up meetings with researchers, policy leaders, and prospective site partners from right around the world. Our program is not theoretical. It’s real, it’s working, and it’s being watched.

What sets us apart? Practical, adaptive expertise.

While others debate protocol designs, we are actively evolving and measuring care models, responding to patient needs, working with payers, and generating the kind of data that clinical trials won’t capture for years.

The Medibank partnership validates our approach across three key pillars:

It was also a joy to see the growing Australian contingent of researchers, clinicians, and advocates presenting, leading, and connecting across every corner of the event. The momentum is real.

With major payer support secured, we are now expanding our PTSD and treatment-resistant depression programs, while our real-world data will continue to inform regulatory discussions and elevate global standards of care.
